Q. How much whole grains should I eat per day?
A. The USDA recommendations vary based on age, gender and level of physical activity. As an example, the USDA recommends that a woman between the ages of 31-50 years old who is moderately active consume approximately 6 ounce equivalents of grains per day, and at least half of those whole grains. One serving of Dare grainsfirst equals about one ounce equivalent. For more information, visit the USDA MyPyramid website.
Q. Is Dare Foods really peanut-free? I'm sure I've seen Dare products that have peanuts in them.
A. In early 2004, Dare completed changes to become a peanut-free manufacturer. Products that have been made in Dare's peanut-free locations are identified by the line "Manufactured in a Peanut-Free Facility" on the package. We encourage you to check information on the package every time, so you are able to make informed decisions.
Additionally, Dare has worked with suppliers on several of our peanut-free products, including Breton Minis, to ensure they are peanut-free in production of our ingredients. A logo on the front panel is our assurance of this measure. Again, please check the package for this logo.
Q. What are "trans fats"? How do they affect me?
A. Dare has many products available now without trans fats (see specific product information) and is committed to continue developing new products without trans fats.
To make foods that stay fresh longer on the shelf or to get a solid fat product (e.g. some margarine), hydrogen would be added to polyunsaturated oils, creating trans-fatty acids, or trans fats. In clinical studies, trans fats tend to raise total blood cholesterol levels. They also tend to raise LDL ("bad") cholesterol and lower HDL ("good") cholesterol.
Q. How do I know which Dare products are Kosher?
A. All of Dare's Kosher products bear the Kosher certification mark. If you have any questions regarding these products, please "Contact Us" for further information.
